Figure notes

The proximal portion of the flagellar basal body is surrounded by a ring of electron dense material. The amorphous material separating the microtubules also appears as a series of arcs and these have the same centre as the composite arc, referred in other papers. From the lower surface of the same end of the non-flagellar basal body, a long. narrow. striated, fibrillar rootlet passes obliquely towards the Golgi apparatus. Flagellar rootlet microtubules, as they radiate outwards from the flagellar base, pass close to the microfilament bundles which form the bases of the tentacles. We can see a central filament in the flagellar transition zone.
